ORNELLAIA 2019 “IL VIGORE”

ORNELLAIA 2019

“IL VIGORE”

The character of Ornellaia 2019, 14th edition of Vendemmia d’Artista, was “Il Vigore”, which was chosen to describe the energetic growth of the vines and the florid natural conditions that invigorated a landscape of energy, strength and power.
Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg were the artists chosen to interpret “Il Vigore”.

THE ARTISTS

Swedish artists Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg have worked side by side since 2004. Using different media and techniques, they focus on the intersection of images, sounds, animation and music to create multisensory works with a strong emotional impact. In their imaginary and fairytale world, upbeat stop-motion animations dramatized by the music of Hans Berg are fragments of dreams and memories that reveal the carnival-like upending of celebrities and role reversals.

THEME AND SPECIAL LABELS

In interpreting the character of Ornellaia 2019, the artists focused the project on the theme of metamorphosis, the cycles of nature and its transformation, as well as the relationship between humans and the earth. The concept is conveyed through touch in the design of the labels for the double magnum bottles, in which the relief was created using grains of earth from the Ornellaia vineyards, enhancing the direct connection between humans and nature through tactility. The Imperial bottles and the Salmanazar display the final evolution of this process, in which floral elements with voluptuous forms and other creatures seem to be born out of the bottle. Lastly, the video, with the introduction of sound and movement, represents a further stage in this transformation that combines art, life and nature.

Some of the large-format bottles of Vendemmia d’Artista “Il Vigore” were sold at the Sotheby’s auction held on 5 October 2022 and the profits were donated to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation for the development of the “Mind’s Eye” program.
